Nancy Rochford-Flynn is an Interdisciplinary Artist, Community Art Activist and an educator/facilitator who is based in Co. Wexford. Nancy was resident in the U.K. for a number of years and returned to Ireland in 1997. Having been awarded a Postgraduate Scholarship in Smart Aging Research from Limerick Institute of Technology, she is currently completing an M.A. by Research exploring emotional resilience & well-being through the field of psychology. With a passion for participatory and community based art her practice uses ABCD (Arts Based Community Development) to affect positive change in the lives of those who feel marginalised or socially excluded within society and aims to create contemporary work within a social context. Her practice examines gender and identity and the physical and psychological effects of exclusion and oppression. Her research into the oppression suffered by women in Ireland’s Magdalene laundries has developed into her personal practice focusing on the status of women within contemporary society and the realisation of the importance of activism to eliminate inequality. It is informed by women's social history and the study of narratology. She is interested in the way people connect and communicate with each other and generates material through the experiences and relationships she develops.
Nancy's work focuses on topics such as ethics, collaboration, social activism, aesthetics and form and is compiled of a dynamic combination of concepts, materials, methods and technologies. She is currently on the artist panel for the Arts Department of Wexford County Council’s Artist in the Community Scheme.
